Bernadette Despujols

Bernadette Despujols was born in 1986 in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. She studied Architecture at the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), where she graduated with honors in 2007. Soon after, she continued her education at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where took classes in architecture, cultural exchange, morphology and anatomy before beginning her endeavors in art making. Despujols taught Architectonic Design at the School of Architecture at the Universidad Central de Venezuela before moving to the US to pursue her MFA in Visual Arts at the California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in 2010. Despujols’ artistic practice is highly expansive, as she incorporates a wide range of different media, including painting, sculpture, video and installation. Her current work revolves and questions historical allusions, myths and references regarding the perception of women, sex and contemporary life. She shares her time between her architectonic firm and her art practice. Lives and works in Miami since 2013.

Gisseline Amiuny De Ottati

Gisseline was born in Caracas, Venezuela. She studied architecture, art, design and decoration, including religious sculpturing and jewelry design.“I can express myself as an artist through lines, curves and geometric shapes. I get inspired when I experiment with light, shadows and reflections that produce geometric shapes interacting with materials. I am inspired by the creation of subtle effects that trick the eye and make the observer think that there are curved surfaces where there are flat elements or that there are inclined elements where there are straight elements or shadows and reflections that change depending on the position from which you observe. I also use virtual motion and optical vibrations. The brain and the eye always go together, but I believe the heart has big significance as well. My main focus is on dynamic artistic pieces, which when viewed from different angles, can help you discover several pieces within one piece".My pieces are a combination of constructivist art, geometric, kinetic and optical, framed within contemporary art.

Nicolás Schöffer

Multifaceted French artist of Hungarian origin, was a pioneer of cybernetic art. For this artist, sculpture ceased to be an inanimate object. In 1955, he created in Paris the first multimedia sculpture in the world, the "Space-dynamic" tower, was equipped with sensors that allowed the viewer to interact in real time with the music of Pierre Henry, the creator of electroacoustic music.

In 1956 he created "CYSP1", the first autonomous cybernetic sculpture. Spectators who attended the Maurice Bejart ballet at the "Festival d'Art d'Avant-Garde" in Marseille, were astonished to see how the artwork, equipped with sensors, reacted to light, to music and to the movement of the dancers.

In 1975 he conceived "Varetra" (Variations tramées), a bright and interactive sculpture in the shape of a cuboid, which allows the user to combine different sheets called “Unitra", creating various geometric patterns and lots of anamorphic images.

During his life, Schöffer left instructions so that his artwork would be adapted to future technologies and so that other generations could discover the endless creative possibilities of this piece. For that reason, the artist's widow, Madame Éléonore of Lavandeyra Schöffer, turned to the Cruz-Diez workshop team in Paris, in order to research in the archives of the artist's studio the original designs and reproduce the “Varetra" using current technology. Forty years after the first public display of "Varetra” in 1975, this limited edition brings back the aesthetics of this artist of space, light and time; a visionary who anticipated the progress of scheduled art.

The "Varetra” is a Lumina-Dynamic sculpture in which three transparent Plexiglas plates can be inserted and exchanged by the user to achieve an infinite number of anamorphic ranges, that are projected onto the transparent screen in the front of the sculpture. Each of the plates, called "Unitra" (Unites tramées), were manually printed in serigraphy, reproducing the original designs of the artist. “Varetra" is a symphony of images and colors that come to life as users press a tactile contact, devised by the artist, activating small LED bulbs, which emit intermittent and continuous light.

The Atelier Cruz-Diez in Paris, with its reputation, experience and savoir faire, made possible the return to the future of “Varetra", the work of Nicolas Schöffer.

Carlos Cruz-Diez

This Venezuelan artist has been excelled for his research, through which he brought to the world of art a new form of knowledge, related to the phenomenon of color; his studies expanded the perceptual universe. His reflection and discourse are innovative . The artistic project of Carlos Cruz -Diez is founded on eight investigations that reveal the different behavior of color in space: Couleur Additive ( Additive Color ), Physichromie ( physio-chromia ) , Induction Chromatique ( Chromatic induction ), Chromointerférence ( chromium-interference ), Transchromie ( Trans-chromia ) , Chromosaturation ( chrome-saturation ), Chromoscope ( chromoscope ) and Couleur dans l’espace( space color) .

“El Maestro” (as their friends and admirers like to call him) instantly creates works of art that are part of the present, works of art which have neither future nor past, they evolve and change as the observer remains active. To see beyond reality, to perceive the invisible, the non-existent ; this Venezuelan has taught the world how to see with the eyes of the soul, integrating fans into the magical world of color, as in his works appear and disappear before our eyes colors that are not in the piece of art.

Cultural institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London , the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris , among others , have permanent exhibitions of the work of this Venezuelan artist.

Cruz -Diez reveals to the world the magic of color, the art perceived differently , alive, not only in galleries and museums but also in buildings , stadiums , streets. As stated by the artist himself: “color impregnates reality, one must know how to appreciate it”. We have to leave aside the logic and rationality to see the invisible. We should get carried away by the sensations , see and feel beyond the tangible reality to discover the beauty of color in the art and enrich our knowledge and spirit. The color resembles music, an art in space and time , that comes and goes.

Silvia Lizardo

The wastes from the streets of Caracas were the first inspiration for the first works of Silvia Lizardo. For her, these objects are loaded with history and constitute an intimate expression of people. Her first installations had as the objective to dignify and give them another form of existence.
The sculpture "Emotional self portrait" (2009) made from a chair recovered in the street, participated in the Biennial Sculpture of Trazos Gallery, where she received an award from a leading critic of Venezuelan art, Perán Erminy.
In parallel Lizardo, began exploring other materials, like clay, resin, plaster and bronze. She joined a group called “Artistas en Conjunto”, with that it would conduct a series of exhibitions in Caracas. Notably, she participated in a community Urban Art Festival in a neighborhood of the capital, where she made his first mural.
From 2011 she lives in Lyon, where she continues her work as an artist. She also serves as editor, professor of color grading techniques. Her work through moving images led us to explore video art, which develops a series of montages inspired by nature and japanese poetry, called visual Haiku.
Her style is a mixture of different visual media, including photography, painting, video and land art. In her work the emotions are raw. Her texts and images tell us about her immigration process, the difficulty of communication, distance language. In her vivid colors we can find the mark of the Latin American culture.

Martha Rodríguez

"In the course of my artistic research I have expressed myself in bi-dimensional space and
three-dimensional works without giving preference to either-one. It has been a back and forth on these spaces and
volumes, feeding my curiosity, experimenting with techniques and materials, freeing my imagination
and my curiosity, experimenting with techniques and materials, freeing my imagination and intuition,
answering questions through a dialogue with space, shape or light. "

1971 - After writing a study on Vladimir Tatlin, founder of Constructivism, Carlos Medina begins to develop his artistic discourse in this trend. Subsequently, he develops pieces of iron and stone, locating himself in the trend of geometric abstraction.

1976 - Carlos Medina settles in Carrara and for seven years he works the marble and the granite.

1984 - he returns to Venezuela where he experimented with iron, steel, wood and paper. His artistic quest starts to revolve around the geometric reinterpretation of nature and the cosmos.

2000 - its proposal evolves from the sensitive geometry to the minimalist, retaking the line, suspending forms, eliminating supports and bases, invading the space in a quest of the essential through the light.

Carmen Carriero

Currently living in Rome and is native of Campomarino, Molise. Carmen Carriero develops the Linear Symmetry trend.

1974 - She graduated from the Liceo Artistico Statale (Termoli) of the Accademia di Belle Arti (Firenze) and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Roma).

The artist did not cease her experimentation until she found the signifiers of a speech within the geometric abstraction. In her works titled Linear Symmetry, she uses lines to express her own poetics of space. Lines that at times are duplicated when reflected in the metallic background that contains them, a linear symmetry in which they acquire motion as the gaze moves.
